Compress images without the guesswork

Most image compressors give you one button and a prayer. DesignMode24‘s image compressor shows you exactly what you’re getting: pick a quality level, choose JPEG, WebP or PNG output, cap the width for web use — and see the original size, the new size and the percentage saved before you download anything.

How the image compressor works

  1. Drop your image in. JPG, PNG or WebP. The file opens locally in your browser — it is never uploaded to a server.
  2. Set quality and size. The slider runs from 10% (tiny, rough) to 100% (near-lossless). The max-width box downsizes oversized photos — a 6000px camera photo rarely needs to stay 6000px wide on the web.
  3. Hit Compress image. Your browser re-encodes the file with the Canvas API and shows a live preview plus honest before/after numbers.
  4. Download. One click saves the smaller file with “-compressed” in the name, so the original stays untouched.

Which settings should you use?

  • Photos for a website: JPEG at 75–85% quality, max width 1920px. This is the sweet spot — files shrink 60–80% with no visible difference.
  • Logos and graphics with text: WebP or PNG. JPEG smudges sharp edges; WebP keeps them crisp at a fraction of PNG’s size.
  • Maximum savings, quality secondary: JPEG at 60% quality. Fine for thumbnails and previews.

Why browser-based image compression wins

Server-side compressors make you wait in a queue while your photo travels up and down the internet. Here, a 12 MB photo compresses in about two seconds because nothing travels anywhere. It also means private photos — IDs, family pictures, client work — never leave your device. There is simply no safer way to compress an image online.

Frequently asked questions

Is the image compressor really free?
Yes. No account, no daily limit, no watermark on your output.

Will it work on my phone?
Yes — the tool is mobile-friendly. Compress a photo straight from your camera roll without installing an app.

What’s the best format for the web in 2026?
WebP for most cases: wide browser support and 25–35% smaller than JPEG at the same quality. We default to JPEG only because every device on earth can open it.

Does compression reduce image dimensions?
Only if you lower the max-width setting. Quality compression alone keeps the same pixel dimensions.
